![]() Rice Planters Amateur 35 years after its inception by local amateur Dick Horne, the Rice Planters Amateur Golf Championship has earned a reputation as one of the finest tournaments of its kind and a capstone of American competition. This event, held at Snee Farm Country Club in Mount Pleasant, SC prides itself on a rigorous recruitment process resulting in a competitive field of young golf talent from all over the world. In preparation for this year’s tournament, scheduled for July 3rd-July 7th, the Rice Planters’ committee has arranged a variety of sponsorship efforts and donations from the surrounding Charleston community. Among a long list of consistent local sponsors, the Rice Planters Amateur is proud to announce the addition of Back Nine USA, a Boston-based golf headwear and apparel company that has graciously donated a selection of goods to the competitors in this year’s tournament field. “We are excited to be able to be a part of such a terrific tournament. It’s important to us to be able to support amateur golfers and events like Rice Planters because we understand the love for the game and the high level of competition it offers,” said Back 9 USA president Andy Hydorn. ![]() Finishes 3rd at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club for qualification Congratulations are in order for Back 9 USA founder and President, Andy Hydorn, for successfully qualifying at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club on Monday, April 9 for the Texas Amateur Championship. Mr. Hydorn will test his mettle against 144 of Texas’ best amateurs from June 7-10 at hosting club Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas. Despite the unusually cold temperatures for Houston in April, Mr. Hydorn shot an impressive 71 to finish third overall in the qualifying round. Coincidentally, his best play came on the back nine where he shot 32 including birdies on five out of six holes. As a past back-to-back winner of the Rogers Tournament, now known as the Eastern Mass Golf Championship, we look forward to Mr. Hydorn’s performance in the upcoming championship. For more information on the Texas Amateur, please visit the Texas Golf Association at www.txga.com. ![]() The patent-pending HYBRID Soft-Fit hat, like the rest of Back 9 USA's product line, combines the ingenuity of modern materials with classic designs. The difference with the HYBRID Soft-Fit hat lies in the patent-pending combination of stretchable and non-stretch cotton panels that give the hat a washed, unstructured look yet still has a fitted back closure. "There is really nothing like the HYBRID Soft-Fit in the marketplace right now" stated Andy Hydorn, president and co-founder of Back 9 USA. "With stretch and non-stretch cotton panels and a stretch sweatband in a fitted shape, we've created a hat that fits snuggly but is still comfortable to wear." Back 9 USA will also introduce their new up-and-coming Back 9 headwear line. The eye-catching designs usually garner a second look for their great style and the enigmatic Back 9 logo - a simple backward number 9 with accents typifies Back 9's approach to headwear and life. "Eat. Sleep. Golf." continued Mr. Hydorn, "That's our philosophy because
we're just as passionate about our headwear as we are about our game. Back 9 hats are for golfers who really love and respect the game of golf. It's about that moment that you start on the back nine just as the sun is setting and you still putt out every hole. It's about the moments on the golf course you just can't duplicate anywhere else."
Rounding out the headwear line up are the new blank styles for Back 9's growing custom logo and custom design work. The new styles include the Hybrid Soft-Fit, a Contrast Stitch, a Winter Fleece and the Cool Mesh hat to bring Back 9's blank hat offering to 10 styles and 40 color options. Currently, Back 9 provides custom logo headwear for national and local restaurants and non-profits while their custom design business includes major golf manufacturers and national beverage companies. "Some people think a hat is just a hat; we don't. Fit comes first at Back 9 because no matter what's embroidered on the hat, if it doesn't fit, it isn't worn. Every Back 9 hat is made to our specifications from the circumference and profile to the choice of quality fabrics to the finishing touch of embroidery techniques. Basically, we don't make souvenirs, we make hats people actually wear" said Mr. Hydorn. Back 9 USA's entire product line of golf headwear, apparel and accessories will be on display at the 2007 PGA Merchandise Show within the New Company Discovery Zone section in booth 4288 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida from January 25-27, 2007.
